The School of Music at Soochow University
(Suzhou, China) invites applications for a tenure-track position in
Ethnomusicology at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a specialization in East
Asian Music (Chinese Music preferred). A completed Ph.D. is required at the
time of appointment. The qualified candidate will be expected to be proficient
in Mandarin Chinese (speaking and reading).
Responsibilities
include:
Introductory courses in world music for
music majors and non-majors; undergraduate and graduate seminars in
ethnomusicology; and thesis advising for graduate students. Salary and benefits
are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will be an
outstanding scholar with the promise of significant contribution to the field
and will lead and develop an undergraduate and graduate curriculum in ethnomusicology.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching and the ability to interact productively with
colleagues are desired. All courses will be taught in both Mandarin Chinese and
English.
