The Tradition and Future of Music—
The 2019 Taiwan Musicology Society and Taiwan Musicology Forum Annual Meeting
The Taiwan Musicology Society and Taiwan Musicology Forum are co-organizing their joint annual meeting the fourth time. The meeting promotes academic presentations and exchanges from scholars inside and outside the discipline of musicology (broadly defined), seeking to enhance local music research and its social impact. Not setting a single theme for the meeting, like in the past joint meetings, the Program Committee of the meeting hopes to invite diversity of participation from different schools and approaches.
Proposal Submission Deadline: April 30, 2019 (Tuesday)
Result Notification: June 1, 2019 (Saturday)
Meeting Dates: November 15-16, 2019 (Friday-Saturday)
Meeting Venue: Tainan National University of the Arts
Hosting Institutions: Taiwan Musicology Society and Tainan National University of the Arts
Eligibility: We invite submissions from graduate students and scholars who conduct research related to music, broadly defined.
Forms of Presentations:
- Individual Paper: an individual paper presentation is 20 minutes long and is followed by 10 minutes of questions and general discussion.
- Panel Discussion: focusing on a specific theme and consisting of 3-4 presenters in total. A 1.5-hour panel comprises three papers, and a 2-hour panel consists of four papers. Each paper presentation is 20 minutes long and is followed by 10 minutes of questions and general discussion.

https://goo.gl/forms/JeBgkhr7dCTXvTbm1 - Individual Paper proposal submission: please enter the paper title, an abstract of the paper in 500-700 words for Chinese submission (or 250-300 words for English submission), and the affiliated institution and terminal degree of the presenter.
- Panel Discussion proposal submission: please submit an abstract of the whole panel and of each of the panelists.
- Please submit before April 30, 2019 (Tuesday), 23:59 (UTC+8).
Method of Review:
- The program committee consists of representatives from both the Society and Forum. Selection criteria of the double-blind review process is based on the originality and academic contribution of the submitted proposal.
- Result of the review will be notified on June 1, 2019. Accepted proposals will be posted on the meeting website.
- Abstract of the proposal is expected to present clearly the key argument(s) of the paper, relation to previous scholarship of the subject matter, materials and methods, and contribution and significance to musicology.
- In case one or more paper in a Panel Discussion proposal is not accepted, causing the number of accepted papers to be less than 3, all accepted paper(s) of the Panel Discussion proposal will be scheduled as presentation in Individual Paper session(s).
Remarks:
- A book exhibit area will be provided at the joint meeting for the first time, displaying recent print and audio/audio-visual publications on music related subjects. Researchers who would like to display their publications, please contact organizers of the meeting.
- Presenters are especially welcomed to submit their paper in the form of a journal article to Taiwan yinyue yanjiu / Formosan Journal of Music Research.
