The World Symposium on Global Encounters in Southeast Asian
Performing Arts: International Theater Festival, Conference and Workshop
to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on 1-3 February, 2013.The main
objective of the symposium is to function as a platform of exploration,
in search of a lasting live performance culture that can establish an
influential and sustainable position in Southeast Asia, regardless of
whether it is expressed in traditional, contemporary or postmodern form.
It is a communal gathering for performing arts academics, practitioners
and enthusiasts with the aim of establishing a productive dialogues and
common ground with regard to ways in which Southeast Asian creative
arts will survive under the tremendous pressure of the global spectrum
of changes currently taking place.
There will be 4 distinctive
themes of the conference panels; ‘performance & new media’,
‘traditional performance in the changing world’, ‘spectrum of
contemporary vs. intercultural performance’, and ‘transnationalism and
globalization’. The themes of the international theater festival and
workshop are also both interrelated and operated under the themes.
